Meta, the company of Mark, has sent an email to 8,000 employees and offered gratitude. Also, the Meta company founder has promised two things: there won't be any layoffs in 2026. It's an overall 10 percent of Meta's workforce cut. The layoff notification is sent to employees across Asia, Europe, and America. Also, the US workforce will be receiving 18 months of COBRA health benefits along with 16 weeks of severance plus two weeks for every year worked. Meta has shifted 7,000 workers to new AI projects.
The real reason behind the huge number of layoffs is Meta investing $145 billion in AI, and the finance chief said that she is not aware of the total number of headcounts. Also, where AI was, the team needed 100 people; now it needs only 10, said Meta founder. Meta is spending double the amount compared to last year on AI. Currently, Meta is building data centers, model training, and custom chips, due to which the 8,000 job cuts are being done.
